MODI CHAIRS MEETING OVER KASHMIR VIOLENCE
Clashes between protesters and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have resulted in a fourth day of curfew for a large portion of the valley. As a result, home minister Rajnath Singh has postponed his trip to the United States, saying that the situation requires his close attention. Furthermore, Singh’s presence in Parliament will be necessary, as he must answer questions about Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani’s killing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to discuss the matter. Those present at the meeting included Singh himself, finance minister Arjun Jaitley, defence minister Manohar Parrikar, foreign minister Sushma Swaraj, and NSA Ajit Doval. The meeting comes in the wake of continued violence in the J&K areas. Reports indicate that over 350 people have been injured in incidents of violence.
