WORLD NO.1 GOLFER WITHDRAWS FROM RIO
Jason Day is the best golfer in the world. But he will not be participating in the 2016 Summer Olympics at Rio De Janeiro. Day is the most recent among a slew of golfers who have said that they will not be traveling to South America to compete in the golf’s first appearance in the game since 1904. Others who have also withdrawn include four-time major winner Rory McIlroy, three time major winner Vijay Singh and Marc Leishman. Shane Lowry of Ireland, ranked 25 in the world, also withdrew. All these golfers cited the fear of possible transmission of the Zika virus as the reason for why they withdrew from the tournament. On his Twitter account, Day said that he had always placed his family before his golfing career, and went on to say that, even though playing in the Olympics had always been a dream for him, he would not endanger his family’s future for it.
