OVERPASS COLLAPSE IN INDIA KILLS 22
An overpass collapsed in a commercial area in Kolkota, India, killing 22. Major General Anurag Gupta, an official in India’s National Disaster Management Authority, said that the number of people trapped by the accident remains unknown. An estimated 75 people were injured by the collapse. Four squadrons for rescue have been deployed by the Indian army, and so far 71 people have been pulled from the rubble.
BRUSSELS SUSPECT TO BE EXTRADITED
The attack on Belgium’s capital of Brussels left the world shaken. Since they were carried out, authorities have been tirelessly searching for suspects, and they finally apprehended one in Salah Abdeslam. He has been linked to the Paris attacks in November. A warrant for his arrest had been issued in Paris on March 19. As of Thursday, he was the most wanted man in Europe. However, he has been captured and is set to be extradited to France.
TRUMP URGES PUNISHMENT FOR WOMEN WHO WANT ABORTIONS
With the Republican establishment fighting tooth and nail against its frontrunner, Donald Trump has given it even more reason to be worried. Though Republicans are quintessentially pro-life, Trump’s assertion that women should receive punishment for seeking an abortion has shocked the establishment. The New York businessman has since backed away from that statement. While Trump’s comments are seen as incredibly offensive, he has made offensive comments in the past and his poll numbers have never dropped.
CLIMATE CHANGE, RISING SEA LEVELS
New studies have indicated that melting polar ice caps could raise sea levels up to 6 feet by the 22nd century. A report published in science journal Nature showed that the ice in Antarctica has the potential to create up to a 3 foot rise in sea levels by 2100. With climate change becoming an increasingly prevalent problem, countries have been doing their best to curb their carbon emissions.
