CRICKET UPDATE ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2016
NEW ZEALAND HAVE TRIUMPHED OVER AUSTRALIA
This is Kiran providing you with an update on what's going on in the cricketing world. New Zealand have triumphed over Australia in the T20 World Cup match in Dharamsala. New Zealand batted first but ended up with a below par score of 142 for 8. None of their batsmen got going, with only opener Martin Guptill making any significant contribution with a 27-ball 39. Shane Watson bowled well for Australia, conceding only 22 runs off 4 overs and picking up one wicket. Australia got off to a good start with Usman Khawaja scoring a brisk 38 but they got into trouble in the middle order, losing regular wickets. Smith, Warner and Maxwell failed to prosper, and Australia got close but not close enough as they lost to New Zealand by 8 runs. The star performer for New Zealand was fast bowler newcomer Mitchell McClenaghan who took three wickets for just 17 runs and was nominated the Man of the Match.
In the other match in Mumbai, in a high scoring dramatic encounter, England survived some last minute panicking to register a narrow two-wicket victory over South Africa, with Joe Root playing a delightful innings of 83 off 44 balls with four sixes and six fours. South Africa batted first, and through vital contributions from Hashim Amla 58 and Quinton de Kock 52, and same superb late hitting from JP Duminy 54 not off 28 balls, they were able to mount a gigantic total of 229 for four wickets which on any other day would have been more than enough. But South Africa ran into Joe Root's pyrotechnics and Jason Roy. At the top of the order Jason Roy smashed 43 off 16 balls with three sixes, and after that it was England's day all the way as they made it to 230 losing eight wickets. Joe Root the Man of the Match.
