NO CLEAR MOTIVE IN KALAMAZOO SHOOTINGS

On Saturday, Jason Brian Dalton, an Uber driver, went on a seven hour shooting rampage, killing 6 people and injuring 2 more all over Kalamazoo county, Michigan. Citing the unhurried nature of each killing, prosecutor Jeffery Getting says that these shootings were deliberate, begging the question: Why did the shooter do this? Getting went on to add that the shooter did not appear to have a method in choosing his targets. Kalamazoo County undersheriff Paul Matyas says it was “your worst nightmare”. While the method behind the madness is still unknown, answers could be coming soon as Dalton is currently cooperating with police in their investigation.

SAN BERNARDINO VICTIMS STAND WITH FBI ON ENCRYPTION

The fight between Apple and the United States government over the creation of a backdoor into the iPhone that would bypass passcodes has been raging for the last week. Recently, the FBI asked a judge to make Apple comply through a court order, but Apple refused. The FBI wants to unlock the iPhone of the San Bernardino shooter, but it is passcode protected. If they try unsuccessfully more than 10 times, all data will be erased from the phone, rendering it useless. As such, the FBI needs a method that will allow it to bypass the passcode, or try unlimited passcodes. Apple has refused due to privacy concerns for its customers. However, in a new development, San Bernardino victims have said they support the FBI in this case. Stephen Larson, former judge turned private practitioner has said he will represent the victims in the case.

SANTA CLARA ANNOUNCES NEW MAYOR

In an unexpected turn of Bay Area politics, former real estate agent Lisa Gillmor is now the mayor of Santa Clara. Gillmor was one of three council members willing to take on the establishment football team that seemed to drive the voting majorities. However, despite her rocky relationship with the Niners, Gillmor now occupies the mayoral office, elected by the very colleagues with whom she fought. In her inaugural speech, Gillmor expressed a desire to repair relationships with the red and gold. Bob Lange, 49ers VP of communications, said that the team is looking forward to working with Mayor Gillmor.

WHY DID BUSH STUMBLE?

Jeb Bush suspended his presidential bid, and despite his low poll numbers, everyone is asking the same question: What happened? In the first month of the Republican presidential race, the former Florida governor was the frontrunner, and looked to be the one who would take the Republican nomination. However, Bush’s misstep lay not in his credentials, but rather in his ideology. He preached a “slow and steady wins the race” campaign, trying to create the image of a compassionate Republican party. His steady change campaign was not one which the current Republican party wanted. Bush was optimistic, painting a picture of joy, and the Republican party is angry. They want immediate change, which was not something that Bush was offering.
